Further
Information:
Casa Portagioia
lies at the eastern end of the Valle di Chio with the ancient
town of Castiglion Fiorentino (population about 12,000) located
at the mouth of the valley about 5Km west. The tiny hamlet
of Pieve di Chio has no shops or facilities with the nearest
shop being 2Km in Santa Christina, a 15 minute walk (25 minute
stroll) away. This is a bucolic, working, rural area where
the maintenance of vines, olive groves and vast fields of
sunflowers provide many of the locals population a livelihood. Aside from this, there really are
plentiful wild boar and wild horses ranging through the almost
impenetrably fecund hillsides.
Visiting Casa
Portagioia is about peace and tranquillity, comfort and
unwinding. However, most visitors want to get a flavour of Tuscan life and visit the many
fascinating historic, architecturally amazing and religious
sites (see Places to Visit) - for this a car is pretty much a
necessity.
Otherwise, Casa Portagioia do
offer limited cycle facilities and a gentle 30min cycle through our
glorious countryside will take you to Castiglion Fiorentino
Train
Station where regular trains access Rome, Florence. Arezzo
and Siena. Florence (Firenze) is roughly a 1hr train
journey and sets you down in the very heart of this magical
city. To access details of local train services, times and
