Our 14.5m solar-heated swimming pool is for the exclusive use of our guests from 07:00 - 22:00 daily from April - October inclusive.  Comfortable pool-side furnishings and sun shades provide an ideal and relaxing retreat with unparalleled views across the Valle Di Chio.  Our pool is perfectly located and benefits from sunshine for virtually the entire day.  Here, under the Tuscan sun, you can simply relax and let the cares of your world disappear.  Clean towels are provided daily and there is a nice cold pool-side shower available to periodically cool yourself.

The pool area is grassed and secluded on three sides while the remaining side is vividly planted with many pots, shrubs and divine lavender, the fragrance of which fills the air.  Comfortable sun beds are plentiful and cleaned daily along with large sun shades.  There is even a small shaded dining area for snacking perhaps.  During early summer evenings i.e. May and June the air is filled with twinkling fire flies like a myriad local stars. In the early mornings a  heavy scent of lavender shrouds the pool in a bluish mist before the heat of the day.  These times, above all, are the finest times for a swim.

Casa Portagioia can provide a light lunch, either served by the pool, or you may choose to enjoy your lunch on the dining room terrace with wonderful views across our gardens and olive groves - everywhere you look at Casa Portagioia the views are simply magnificent.  Aside from our lunch menu you may also request chilled soft drinks, a tray of tea or coffee, a bottle of local wine (or even Champagne) or a cooling lager or beer at any time - served by the pool, on our terrace or in your room as requested.

The temperature of the pool during the hottest months can be expected to reach 28-320 Centigrade (a water thermometer is available) and be more than comfortable for even the most reluctant swimmer.   During April, May, late September and October our Solar Heating can make the pool very comfortable too.  As the long hot summer evenings proceed you are free to use the pool with pool-side lighting late in to the evening if you wish.

Generally, our pool is not available for use from 20th October - 30th March.

 

ALWAYS - Sensible Pool Side Etiquette.

  • We expect our guests to maintain sensible pool-side etiquette at all times when using these facilities at Casa Portagioia.  We insist that absolutely no glass or crockery be taken pool-side while we are always happy to provide non-breakable items for your use at any time where such items are not already available in your accommodation.

  • All our guests using our pool facilities have a right to expect a comfortable, safe, relaxing and peaceful environment at all times.
