Both Terry and Marcello
gave up successful careers in London; Terry as a financial adviser in
the city while Marcello owned and ran an exclusive central London
hairdressing salon. In fact, Marcello is still happily prepared
(time permitting) to practice his hairdressing skills for his guests at
Casa Portagioia, though at considerably less than the £150.00
he used to charge of course. Terry, however, has promised not to
discuss your investment portfolio during your visit - and I'm sure
you'll all sleep a little easier in your beds for that!
After more than 30 months
of bedevilled hard work, determination and a thousand problems they have
managed to take this virtually derelict property in the beautiful Valle
Di Chio and create something very special -
Casa Portagioia.
Their achievement is both confounding and impressive. They now welcome
you with an enthusiasm and style borne out of creating that
'something very special' and their mutual sense of quiet style and
good taste.
Terry and Marcello
finally opened the doors to Casa Portagioia in early 2002 and are
receiving returning guests from Italy, the UK, USA, Canada, Netherlands,
France, Belgium, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Many
have commented on the likes of
Slow traveller,
Rick Steves,
IgoUgo,
Tripadviser,
Trivago and
other travel sites. More recently, Casa Portagioia has been
included in the Michelin Guide©
for Italy and noted as one of the highly regarded 'pleasant
accommodations' of Italy and in 2008 was awarded a Travellers Choice©
award for being one of the Top 10
Bed & Bs in Europe.
During your visit you may be interested to view the
'construction' photo album available to all guests in the Dining Room.
This ably demonstrates just how hard their project has been and how much
attention to detail has been given to creating
Casa Portagioia
for you to enjoy. |
