Using the A1 Autostrade,
take the exit for Monte San Savino (about 50km south of Florence
or 190km north of Rome)
After paying the toll
charges, (you may wish to reset your odometer meter to zero) at the main road turn right heading for
Castiglion Fiorentino
(SP39). Follow the signs for
Castiglion Fiorentino. At the road junction (T-Junction), turn
left
(4.4km) towards Castiglion
Fiorentino. At the traffic lights, go straight across and
follow the road towards Castiglion Fiorentino.
Upon
entering Castiglion
Fiorentino (look out for the CO-OP supermarket on your right), there is a 'T' Junction
(14.4km), turn right toward
Cortona. At the 3rd set of traffic lights
(16.1km just
before a Q8 Service Station on the left), turn left heading towards
Polvano. Now, take
the second turning on the right (17.7km by the church)
signed Pieve Di Chio
/ Orzale. After reaching Pieve Di Chio
(22.5km), continue driving straight on
(look out for a church on your right) for about
700m. You will see 2 large pine trees
on the right of the road (23km), then a small bridge
(23.1km)
- just on the bridge (your approach side) there is a turning to the right
(private road), this is the entrance to
Casa Portagioia
- Welcome! Follow our drive to the main gates along a row
of many Cypress trees (lit at night), enter and then turn right in to
the car parking area.
Of
course, a member of our staff will be on hand to welcome you to
Casa Portagioia and settle you in to your accommodation. Light refreshments
will usually be available for the weary traveller. To avoid discomfort
it is usually possible to drive to the accommodation to unload luggage,
although we do ask our guests to use only the car parking area generally.

(in red) assume that you set your
odometer to zero at the Monte San Savino toll booth.
