at Casa Portagioia
can be quite a perilous activity! You might find yourself
sitting on our terraces for hours on end – taking in the views,
sipping a fresh cappuccino when you had planned to be on the
road discovering more than just our beautiful valley – such is
the relaxed style at Casa Portagioia.
You might also be at
Casa Portagioia for one of our
parties. During the summer these take place on one of our
terraces overlooking the bucolic splendour of the valley.
A five-course dinner is served – and you might like to try some of
Tuscany’s finest (including our own) and other award winning
wines from our cellar.
The focal points of
Casa Portagioia are the spectacular pool with its panoramic
views of the Tuscan countryside and Casa Portagioia’s gardens.
The Cypress lined drive, the lavender, roses, rosemary and ginistra mingle with terracotta pots bursting with summer
colours and fragrances. This can be your 'Home in Tuscany'
whenever you choose. (We offer
various guest services whilst
here which should make your stay with us that more enjoyable)

should be offered when there is something to be
said important, so here goes. Casa Portagioia is consistently
the best bed and breakfast property in Europe. It has a
wonderful location, great facilities, and the most
caring, attentive, and gracious hosts. By
car one can easily reach Sienna, Florence, Arezzo, Cortona, Gubbio, Orvieto, Assisi, and Perugia for sightseeing day trips.
If wine tasting is your thing, the B and B is an excellent hub
to visit the wine country of Chianti Classico,
Montepulciano and Montalcino. The train station at Castiglone
Fiorentino, the local town, is 5 km away and provides an easy
way to get to Arezzo, 10 minutes away, or Florence 1 hour away.
If chilling out is your thing, the valley permits wonderful
walks; the pool and deck are great for relaxing . Amenities-
the 5 rooms and 2 apartments resemble those of a 5 star hotel,
with great beds, Frette linens, new cutting edge (language
option)TV, wifi, and wonderful amount of space for full
unpacking. Breakfast is bountiful and taken on a patio
overlooking the Tuscan countryside. The small size of the B and
B encourages interaction with the other guests fostered
by the friendliness of the hosts Terry and Marcello. This was
our third year in a row but we sat next to Nigel and
Christine who had been 9 times in a row and a couple from
Luxembourg 4 years plus two Honeymooners as well.
What sets this property apart from other nicely sited and
appointed places are the hosts. Marcello is lovingly
attentive. He cooks the breakfast, the 5 course full dinner
served twice a week, and even a light lunch on request. In
addition he makes each guest feel special to him. Terry's
wry wit and humor enlivens the day. When a guest was ill, our
hosts organized medical care, drove the guest to the hospital
and stayed with him until treated-amazing. I was asked, "What
do you see in this place that brings you back each year", by
a newly arrived guest. The answer-guests have the time of
their life while at Casa Portagioia"

rebuilt and redesigned from an older property by hosts Terry and
Marcello, Casa Portagioia has the richness, thoughtfulness,
beauty, elegance and precision of a true work of art.
Called a B&B but more accurately described by the phrase “five-star
boutique hotel,” it nurtures all of a guest’s
senses. Smell through the fragrances of the lush
plantings and the lavender pillow spray…touch through the
fine linens and heated pool…taste through the wonderful
food, from the fresh exotic fruits placed in guest rooms to the
delicious breakfasts to the five-course chef’s dinners offered
twice a week…hearing through the serenely quiet setting,
where the rustling of leaves and song of birds are often the
only sounds. As for sight, we’ll just say that from its
cypress-lined drive to the 360-degree view of the surrounding
hills, Casa Portagioia is a microcosm of all the visual beauty
for which Tuscany is famous. In fact, it’s so beautiful and
relaxing that it’s tempting to skip a day of sightseeing simply
to sit, nap or wander the beautiful premises from the sun-warmed
terraces to the olive grove......"
